Girls in Ocean Science Conference
Middle and High School girls with an interest in marine
sciences have an extraordinary opportunity to dive deep into their passions at Ocean Institute’s upcoming Girls in Ocean Science (GIOS) Teen Conference. This annual event, hosted by Ocean Institute, will take place on March 16th for Middle School students and March 17th for High School students, promising a full day of inspiration, education, and hands-on science.
The Girls in Ocean Science Conference is designed to connect aspiring young female scientists with leading women in the field of oceanography and marine science. This year's conference boasts an impressive lineup of speakers, including Jazz Nichole, a surfboard shaper and entrepreneur; Morgan Raith, an artist known for her science communication; Alejandra Sanchez-Rios, a Ph.D. student specializing in Multiscale Ocean Dynamics at UCSD Scripps Institute of
Oceanography; Abba Gray, a surf industry supervisor and surfboard crafting expert; and Anna Golub, a Ph.D. student focused on Paleoceanography, also at UCSD Scripps Institute of Oceanography.
Saturday, March 16: Dedicated for middle school students
Sunday, March 17: Dedicated for high school students
The $70 fee covers the full-day conference, including continental breakfast, lunch, snacks, a Girls In Ocean Science
(GIOS) T-shirt, and a goodie bag fi lled with surprises.
